Resections for benign disease

There is a variety of benign and semi malignant tumors of the stomach that require local resection. This means only the tumor and a small portion or wedge of the stomach have to be removed surgically. Usually this is achieved by a laparoscopic procedure. In many cases we use a combined approach together with the gastroenterologist, a so called rendezvous-procedure. The internist points out the tumor using gastroscopy for the surgeon to do the resection. For the patients this is a very safe procedure and they can be discharged from hospital after 2-3 days.
